Discussion regarding questionnaire feedback for UGC NET | Changes need to be made for UGC NET

UGC NET is one of the most difficult national level test for post graduate for research and lectureship areas. We can give or suggestions and feedback to the questionnaire asked by UGC NET. This shall help us and other people to go for betterment. This is the best opportunity for us to raise the voice for required changes. Let us discuss the need of change.

Whether NET is an effective tool for identifying entrants in teaching profession in higher education?
UGC NET is national level test in which candidates from all over India appears. This is very beneficial for the eligibility point of view in terms of lectureship. Although, any 3 to 6 hours paper can not decide the level of intelligence of any candidate. It is just a channel to enter into the areas of research and lectureship.

However, there are other eligibility tests too for lectureship at national level. On contrary, candidates getting qualified in any other entrance of their own stream are distinguished from the candidates qualifying UGC NET. This makes discrimination among eligible candidates.

Whether there should be an age limit for appearing in NET?
Every citizen of India have right to work. Sooner or later, if he/she realize the need of pursuing further studies/ career, there should be support from government as well. Age limit is not bad but enhancing the same for few more years would be beneficial for the aspirants.

Whether the number of chances for appearing in NET should be limited?
The number of chances for appearing for UGC NET should not be limited as aspirants may need some time to come upto the difficulty level of UGC NET and cope with hard questions. Also, after droping out admission with JRF due to some unavoidable reason, later if one feels the need of pursuing career further, he wont be able to apply for the same again.

On the other and, various coaching institute instructors qualify UGC NET multiple times to make their resume and business breathe longer.

Whether candidates in the first year of their Master’s degree or equivalent course should be permitted to appear in NET?
Yes, as UGC NET score is valid for two years, candidates should be allowed to qualify and secure the backup plan in first year itself during graduation. With increase in competition, it gets difficult for candidates to face multiple exams and wait for results so long after completing post graduation. However, post graduation complete should be mandatory for further process.

Whether existing format of objective questions for paper I, II & III needs to be changed?
No. i do not think so.

Whether NET be conducted in two stages, i.e., screening test in objective mode for Paper I and Paper II (II+III of existing pattern) followed by main subject examination in descriptive mode?
No, it will unnecessarily cause more delay in declaration of results and candidates need to wait for longer.

Whether there should be negative marking in case of MCQs?
Yes, hit and trials work for many candidates and this gets totally luck based. India needs talented crowd and not lucky ones to pursue further research or lectureship post.

Whether the upper age limit of UGC-JRF needs to be raised?
Yes.

In order to overcome varying difficulty levels of question papers of different subjects, whether only certain defined percentage of candidates from the top of the merit lists of candidates of different subjects and category be declared qualified?
Yes. This is because this way the requirement will be covered ratio-wise and the cutoff marks shall not pick more or less number of candidates required.

Whether there should be uniform qualifying cutoff for all subjects?
No, this shall create chaos among candidates because every subjects undergoes different difficulty level and number of candidates appearing for the same. Moreover, marks obtained by candidates also vary average and percentile for each subject.

You can give your feedback directly to UGC NET

Scope for Business Intelligence and Hadoop | Business Intelligence and Hadoop - Need of the hour

Data collected till 2010 is less than the data collected in last four years. With increase in competition, management level team for each firm feel the need of analytic.

Analytics
Analytics include obtained marketing patterns, demand analysis and better technologies to grow economically and intellectually etc.. Networking or Communication is considered as another important factor in improving business. Analytic is based on the size of company, competitors, marketing strategy, consumer demand etc.

Information Technology
Information Technology is a vast area of study. Using various analysis techniques, one can grow his business.  Databases are the major part of IT field in business. It can maintain the details of people associated with their business. IT can perform operations on the data carried by an organization in terms of providing various answers to questions being framed for future betterment. However, business people are deprived of IT knowledge.

Business Analysts
Business people can perform various financial and management operations. They have ample of marketing strategies. These marketing strategies can be both functional or non-functional. However, it gets difficult for business analysts to mark patterns like those of relational analysis between product sale, which sale is suitable in which period of time, where can it hit the competition etc.. Obtaining these patterns from ample of data gets impossible to calculate manually. Here, we need IT professionals and database technologies.

Integration
Business Intelligence is the integrated field of management and IT. Business analysts undergo the study of data mining and data warehousing type of concepts to understand and implement new techniques for betterment of their marketing strategies. Thus, we need analytic as important part of business.

Database at single node
Long time ago, the entire database used to get available at single node. This single node is said to be mainframe and entire data used to get stored there. Access to the data used to be very slow and it was getting expensive to maintain such large amount of data at single node by search engines. Failure of one node (mainframe) makes it difficult to provide reliable services. It was not scalable. These issues were resolved by distributed system introduced by Google.

Distributed File System
In 1995, Google introduced search engine which proved to be better source of information than all other search engines. However, Google did not reveal it's concept. In 2000, Google got famous. Thereby, in 2003 and 2004, Google reveal its white papers (research papers of the firm), in which they mentioned about the concept and techniques they followed. Thereafter, in 2005, Hadoop was introduced. In 2006, Apache gets associated with Hadoop.

Hadoop
In Hadoop, there are two constituents namely MapReduce and HDFS (Hadoop File System). This is said to be Hadoop distributed system. Externally there exists projects which include handling data via different tools including PIG, Hive, HBase, Mahout etc..

The basic concept of Hadoop is that it contains one main node in which name node, data node, job tracker and task tracker. There are multiple slave node under this main node. Each of these slave node contain data node and task tracker. The data file gets divided into multiple blocks of about 64MB each and multiple copies are made for each block usually 3. Now, these blocks are stored on nodes picked by HDFS randomly. Name node of main node contains information about data nodes of slave nodes. Similarly, one computation is distributed among different nodes to perform several parallel computations and unite them at once. This is taken care by task tracker which keeps the track of job tracker for each node.

If any one slave node gets failed due to some unavoidable reason, the copy of data also reside on other nodes and it can be recovered from there until or unless the machine gets available again. There is one more node called secondary node. The secondary node works as substitute to main node. It keeps the periodic backup for the computations being performed by main node using various slave nodes. Secondary node is used just to recover the main node. However, it does not mean that we can use secondary node as main node. This also eliminates fault tolerance, is more reliable, permit parallel access to data and data access is relatively fast.

Business Intelligence and Hadoop
Along with the maintenance of data, there exists need of conversion of unstructured data to structured data today. It gets difficult to perform such operations. However, it has been expected that by 2015, 90% of the data will be structured and maximum MNC's shall be working with Hadoop. Hadoop is one of the upcoming scope for jobs these days in IT sector. Many IT professionals who started their career in Hadoop two years ago, have hike of 300% in their package i.e. from 3.5 lpa to 10 lpa.

Apart from being an interesting area of job, Hadoop deals with many futuristic plans.

Do we have guts to ignore society?

Education being one of the most important factor being imparted in Indians, inspire us to follow all the customs and traditional values being imparted since childhood. In India, there are several expectations from each one of us in terms of values and customs. During childhood, studying everything and having bookish knowledge seems to be very difficult. But today, I feel the need of imparting these studies in society.

No one has control over his/ her life. Who knows when he has to close his eyes for lifetime. Then why these customs and values bound few people to shed their dreams or why people with different thinking and walking in different direction are treated faulty?

Who knows who stay where in which situation? The inner voice of scream during pains, half hazard life, broken dreams are never listened. Then why blame game is being played when any wrong step is taken due to his obligations.

Why society can not accept all the decisions without rule and regulations. Rules and regulations are meant so as to control the affect of an individual on other. However, if his/ her decision is not affecting others, it should be considered without considering other rules or conventions.

These problems arise for few evil Indian practices like those of dowry system, Sati system, child being successor of business, caste system etc.. These impose dramatic problems in one's life forcefully. All this disturb the peace of mind and finally, create hectic lifestyle.

Why cant we just ignore the facts and figures about others. Why cant society stop all these evil practices and stop peeping into others' lifestyle. Why, in today's fast moving world, one cannot just remove bothering things about himself or about others. We do not have time for our own timeline then why activities of other bother us.

Society has been made for our own benefit. During our ancestors time, it was meant to share thoughts, joys and sorrows. But today, this society has been replaced by countable true friends. Ladies sitting together in evening and gossiping on doorsteps in small chunks has been a common trend these days. However, these gossips are of no use and have nothing to do with actual life, still talking about all this gives them a topic to speak as they have nothing to do apart from this.

So, if you do bad, society will curse you; if you do good, only 2% of this society shall appreciate you who might be your well wishers; if you are happy, all shall laugh with you; but if you are sad, find those priceless jewels who all are with you.

SATYAM, SHIVAM, SUNDARAM...
SATYAM: Be true to yourself. Everything else is fake.
SHIVAM: Today, each one should think about welfare of oneself. World welfare shall become easy.
SUNDARAM: If you are true to yourself, you are beautiful.

Change is constant. We need to change world with few words.

Mind you, you can make your life hell out of heaven or heaven out of hell YOURSELF.

Good Luck!!!

GATE preparation and JOB... How it goes!!!

To the response of last article 'Starting preparation for GATE 2015', an aspirant of higher studies put up some more questions. Let us examine what is the need of an hour. There are number of people who previously opt for corporate sector but now, they realize the need of higher studies. Out of curiosity, Vivek asked me about the time management during preparation along with job.

PERFECT TIME TO START PREPARATION

Best time to start with preparation depends on your own capability. No one else can guide you regarding the same except YOU. For GATE preparation, you need to devote two hours daily. It has been examined that even with job if you devote two hours without any pause, you shall get through. Now as per results, percentile depends upon since how long you have been giving these two hours. It may vary from 3 to 12 months and so will your percentile.

TIME AND TIDES NEVER COME BACK

To start preparation from scratch, start in June-July. However, if you think you have good knowledge about subjects (which is often less with work experience) and can handle tricky question, you can give some space in between and can start preparing from October onwards. But if you find your skills to be perfect and matching with the capability of handling all the competitive questions in GATE, you can brush up from December onwards.

NEED OF COACHING

GATE preparation needs devotion. With job, if you find hard to sit for long hours during studies, you should join some coaching where you are bound to study. But if you think you are responsible enough to manage to give time, if will be much better than the previous choice. This is because coaching center shall teach you the limited material but self study shows you all aspects of the concept. However, if you feel that your concepts are weak, then you may opt for coaching but to this, you have an alternative of www.nptel.ac.in in which you may find the study material and video lectures of different subjects and topics taught by IIT/IISc professors.
Collecting irrelevant study material and multiple books for each subject shall lead you to ambiguous approach towards study. You may start with good potential but it decelerates very soon. So, avoid over excitement for anything and try to maintain consistency in your graph. Instead of making long time tables, try to put up one for a week and then make another chart as progressive chart. In this progressive chart fill up the targets you achieved. Now plot graph with difference between two. Make sure the curve of chart falls day by day.

ENOUGH TIME TO GET INTO GOOD COLLEGE

Good college is very powerful word and for every individual, it has different meaning. Good college comes under different categories. You need to fetch different points for various category colleges. For example top scorer shall go for IIT/IISc. But for mediocre, UOH Hyderabad is also good college. For lower rank, RVCE Bangalore is believed to be good college. So, seeking admissions in good college is not as important as your decision of what you want to achieve. According to your aspirations, go for best place. First, you need to decide you want to go for research or corporate. Anyhow, you have to go for research during masters.
Time required for getting into good college depends upon how much you want to perceive and how much you can go beyond.

TO GET SUCCESS COME OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONES
Time management is in your hands. It depends upon your potential. Sometimes, even three months are enough. Sometimes, it takes three years to go for best option.

How long shall I study??? | Kab Tak Pardu???

Education system in India is so complex and non-deterministic that one can never identify the suitable courses for himself/herself. Education system is getting poorer day by day. Once upon a time, Indian education used to be considered as one of the most prestigious education all over the world.

Non-practical education, untrained staff in college premises of India, students dying for marks etc makes it crucial matter of realization about the standards and height of educational values in India.

Before
  • 2005 – 2006 – Go for Medical/ Non-Medical. Great scope for Engineers and Doctors
  • 2007 – 2008 – Go for B Tech. Great scope for engineering.
  • 2011-2012 – Go for GATE. Great scope after B Tech. Go for M Tech. Great scope for Professorship.

During
  • 2013 – 2014 – Go for UGC NET. Required for Professorship.
  • 2014 – Go for PhD. Required for good job in college as professorship.
  • 2014 – 2015 – Go for GATE 2015. Required valid score for PhD. PhD admissions need M Tech complete degree. Go for Winter session PhD.

After
  • 2019 – Phd completed. Many such candidates roaming around. Get Post – doc.
  • 2022 – Lot of experienced staff is here, no need of more Professors.

REAL PHASE

This is one scenario. Real phase of Indian studies is worse than this. Research has been opted just for the sake of better jobs. The belief of making your identity remarkable remains in dream. Earning livelihood has become a challenging task. Above that, struggling for luxurious life is beyond the thought process.

It has been found that the perceiving power of the brain and mind towards study is in between 17 and 24. However, after that, people tend to learn but remember less. This loose the confidence within oneself. Facing such issues, makes man to stop his study before he can complete all this. By the time of 2020 if you complete your PhD, your age will be 30 years which means that you are not young enough to work with the same passion as you might work 5 years ago for the same.

BEYOND LIFESTYLE

Thus, higher education in India is not supported by society as they think that doing research may disturb the social life and only job/ business remains good option for valuable output. This brings research potential down and thus people work like slave for few bucks. Sometimes, pressurized work mix up personal and professional lives and finally, peace of mind is disturbed.

There is endless discussion to the height of educational problems, above mentioned are very few of them. You can drop your views and suggestions regarding the same at our facebook page or at my profile

AMCAT v/s eLitmus - Tips

Aspiring Minds conduct a nation-wide Computer Adaptive Test to provide a statistically-valid multi-dimensional skill assessment to judge the employment suitability of a large pool of candidates. The multi-dimensional score coupled with innovative filters and graphical visualization lets you find the most appropriate set of candidates for your job profile instantly.

Note: Aspiring Minds organizes an exam called AMCAT. The exam is much easier than eLitmus, but the companies associated with AMCAT offer less package (in an average) than the companies associated with eLitmus.

Computer Adaptive Test:
Your score is not equal to the number of questions answered correctly as is the case in any other test.  As the test is adaptive, it automatically becomes easy or tough according to your performance in questions.
At the start of the test, you are presented with a test question of average difficulty. If you answer this right, the next question will be more difficult. But if you answer this
wrong, you get an easier question and so on. It is very important to understand that the questions right at the beginning affect your score more than those towards the end. These are the questions that are used to measure your general ability and you are accordingly presented with a question set. Once you have progressed into a test, it is very tough to raise your level and get a better score. So take your time and answer the first few questions to the best of your ability.

elitmus consist of 3 sections

A- quantitative- 20 ques (hard)
B- logical reasoning- 20 ques (medium)
C- verbal and comprehension- 20 ques (easy)

Negative marking starts after 25% ques attempted are get wrong. Time limit 2 hours.
